About GADEM

  • Presentation :
    • GADEM (Groupe Antiraciste de Défense et d’accompagnement des Etrangers et Migrants  – antiracist advocacy group in support of foreigners and migrants)  is an association governed by Moroccan law and subject to Dahir (Royal Decree)   1.58.376 of 3 Joumada I 1378 (15 November 1958) relating to the right of association as later amended and completed, notably by the new Law Nr. 75-00, as later amended and completed. GADEM was created on  December 18th, 2006, by a group of activists who have been working for years on migratory issues, more specifically on the defence of  migrants’ rights in Morocco.
    • GADEM’s mission :

To take  part in the actual implementation of foreigners’ and persons in migration’s rights.
To promote the respect for dignity and equal treatment of all, and fight against all forms of discrimination and racism.

In order to respond to this mission, GADEM has set as objective to contribute in  lifting people out of exclusion and  to  support the recognition of foreigners’ and people in migration’s rights.

  • Fieldwork

Since it was founded, GADEM has been actively involved in fieldwork, which has allowed them to ensure follow-up on migrants’ rights violations and the situation of the migrant population in Morocco generally.

They have also grounded their action in the Moroccan and international civil society networks, and maintained close collaboration with other human rights associations, those involved in assistance to migrants and refugees, and migrants’ and refugees’ own associations.

  • Networking

GADEM takes an active part in various national and international associative networks, such as Migreurop and the Euro-African network on migrations.

This fieldwork and active involvement within large networks allow GADEM to ensure a watch task, to be reactive in their advocacy , and also in the defence of legal cases referred to them.
